My routine was to shampoo just my scalp, scrunch and pulse while shampoo is in my hair. Rinse. Add conditioner to the lower 3/4 of my strands, scrunch and pulse. Use a wide tooth comb to comb through my hair, then clip all of my hair on top of my head while I shave. HOUR FRIZZ PROTECTION: All-day-strong hold, defined, touchable curls, and protection from all things humid Several-day reader, first time commenter here. Emily!!! Thank you so much for all of this information. I have loved reading up on your wavy takes on CGM, as I am about to start my own wavy girl journey. I’ve been gathering a ton of info and product recommendations from people like you and Alyson (real life+curly girl). I also noticed/read that you are also from Michigan! I grew up in Battle Creek, but now I’m in Seattle. I, too, love true crime and cults and all the weird shit (I’m a Karen if we are talking about MFM.) The concept behind the Tousle Me Softly Mousse is volume! It’s a high volume formula for dry or wet hair. It will give you similar results regardless of which hair type you have. I would personally recommend this product for straighter hair types. The mousse doesn’t provide as much direct volume as the Curl Boosting Mousse by Herbal Essences. Those stylish but messy runway looks could use the lift. Hiya, firstly wanted to say a big thanks to you for all your amazing posts – so detailed and useful for someone taking their first steps into the wavy world!

Let loose for beachy style, touchable, frizz-free waves with Clairol Herbal Essences Tousling Mousse Tousle Me Softly Level 2 Hold with hibiscus essences. My hair really fell apart fast with this mousse though, day 2 was significantly straighter and less defined than the first day. This mousse is not curly girl approved. I did notice that this seemed to help my hair clump well when wet. I had almost no wet frizz! If you don’t need long-lasting hold or hard hold, but are really concerned about frizz, this might be worth a try. It was a pretty bad match for my hair goals though, making it one of my least favorites. These days it isn’t easy to find a well-priced natural shampoo brand. More often than not, you’ll find yourself trying to figure out whether the product is really as natural as it says it is. Perhaps the marketing department has tried to curb another spinball. However, there is a brand that has been around for quite some time, that’s popular among both hair professionals and everyday users like myself. However, if you have high porosity hair, Addam Artist warns that mousse may not be the best option if the formula is alcohol-based or has no moisturizing properties: " Overly porous or damaged hair can become stiff or brittle with a mousse; this applies to any curl pattern, from 2A to 4C, and can be naturally occurring or caused by chemical treatments." Instead, he suggests a curl cream or a leave-in conditioner with an anti-frizz hair serum. attributes: "-_--_--_--_--_--_--_-Best match-_-grid-_-search successfull:1>-_--_--_--_--_--_--_-No-_--_--_--_-0-_-0-_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_--_-1"

Herbal Essences Body Envy. I see the Herbal Essences Totally Twisted mousse recommended a lot, but after finding that it didn’t have enough hold for me, I decided to try this Body Envy line. It’s rated as having a 4 hold, while the totally twisted is rated 3. This mousse is the same price as the totally twisted, and is curly girl approved. You’re right, it would be a good category to include in the chart! I need my boyfriends help to edit the hTML for the table so I cant’ do that right now but for your reference, the following brands are cruelty free: Aussie, Suave, Herbal Essences, Not Your Mother’s, Cake beauty, and Garnier. So the only brands in this post that aren’t cruelty free are Pantene (they don’t test on animals but aren’t considered cruelty free), and OGX. What I like best about this mousse is how it leaves my hair feeling product-free, yet it lends support and definition to my hair. It doesn’t do a great job of containing my frizz. It gives me a soft cast. I had seen many others online say a little gets a long way with this mousse.

So, first things first: Take the hair porosity quiz because it's the key to finding the right mousse. Done? Cool. Now listen up: "Low porosity hair needs moisture, and if it is prepped properly with moisturizing conditioning masks prior to applying a styler like mousse, the hair will be very receptive," says texture specialist Alicia Bailey. "The hair will appear moisturized and defined with long-lasting curls as a result." Fine hair needs a mousse that can give you fuller-looking hair. Here are some points that might help you find the right mousse for your hair type.

Cradle to Cradle Certified products are made with safer materials and responsible processes to positively impact people and our planet. Alexandro Vasquez, a professional hairdresser and hair colorist, says, “Never overuse mousses as they can make styling your hair with a dryer and brush difficult and also dry out the hair and cause hair breakage. Always apply only a required amount of the product.” Why Trust MomJunction? For tighter curls (4a-4c), a lightweight, medium-hold mousse with extra conditioners (or applied over a leave-in conditioner) is best followed by a serum once dry. Often, these types of curls are in need of hydration. Replenish the moisture first and then layer the mousse over. Serum added at the end increases shine and breaks up the “set” for a nice-looking curl. So while this is not a water-soluable silicone and will need a good cleanser to fully remove, it is going to help smooth damaged areas without causing as much build up as other silicones. Alicia Bailey is a hair texture specialist as well as the global education manager at Design Essentials.Mousse adds volume to your hair, creating fuller, more luscious curls. The aerated foam formulas create space between your strands, making your mane look even bigger. This is a go-to brand for inexpensive, good-quality results with every wash. Because of this, Herbal Essences has attracted quite a strong following which only seems to have grown the brands’ popularity. Herbal Essences was originally founded in 1972 by the Clairol company. That’s enough time to become a household name in homes around the world. Due to the fact that the product line-up is largely inexpensive and otherwise quite effective, they’re trusted as a reliable brand.
