SingStar is a competitive karaoke game for the PlayStation 3, and is a follow-up to the PlayStation 2 SingStar series. SingStar is developed by London Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. This is the first SingStar game for the PS3. There was also a VIP Room used for events. The first event was for the UK rapper Dizzee Rascal, a Mercury Award Winner, and occurred from 24 September to 9 October. [24] Dizzee performed for the PS Home/ SingStar community and answered questions for an hour after the performance. There were also limited time items at this space like a Dizzee Mask. This was available to the European and North American versions of PlayStation Home, however, Dizzee only appeared in the European version to answer questions. [25] Brice, Kath (November 21, 2007). The games are compatible with the EyeToy, PlayStation Eye, and PlayStation 4 cameras, allowing players to see and record themselves singing. The PSP (PlayStation Portable) was also able to manage a playlist in realtime, where users were able to queue songs they wanted to sing, so the decisions weren't made between songs, leading to fewer breaks. PlayStation Home SingStar Rooms Launch on September 24th, Buzz! Game Launching Support Announced". SCE. PlayStation 3 firmware 4.30 was released on 24 October. [12] This release caused some complaints, as the application icon was made mandatory for all European PlayStation 3 users, and cannot be removed from the XMB menu. [13] Various petitions have been started in response to the new icon, but no changes have been made as of today, except on 28 October 2014, when the XMB icon was updated. The icon is still appearing as of today.

Bates, Richard (19 February 2007). "Pass the Mic". Sony_SingStar's Blog. IGN. Archived from the original on 11 March 2007 . Retrieved 11 December 2007. Sony expanded SingStar brand with the release of SingStar Dance and SingStar Guitar. In addition to singing, the first game adds a dancing element using the PlayStation Move controller, while the second allows players to play guitar using any compatible guitar controller. [11] Guitar was released in October 2010, while Dance was released the following month. No further titles have been released in either series. However, SingStar Dance did have a spin-off series of dancing games called DanceStar Party. The maths is simple. The PS2 is the biggest-selling home console of all time, and it sold more consoles in Europe than anywhere else. And SingStar played a big part in driving sales of the PS2, especially to people who had never bought another before, and may never have bought another one since. So while Americans (where the series has sold only 1.5 million copies) may wonder what all the fuss about, in PAL regions there will be a lot of people mourning the imminent demise of SingStar, even if they haven’t touched it in a decade.Bedigian, Louis. "Striking a Chord with SingStar Pop's Tamsin Lucas". GameZone . Retrieved 11 December 2007. The range of songs (which come with their original video) is a strange mixture, from the modern Liberty X and Sophie Ellis Bextor, to A-Ha and Elvis, to Motorhead (and yes, the Village People are in there too). There doesn’t seem to be a theme to the music other than "mixture", which might put some people off - it seems to be a scatter-gun approach to hitting the target market.

SingStar Pop (known as SingStar Popworld in the UK, as Singstar - The Dome in Germany, as Singstar - Svenska Hits in Sweden and as SingStar Norske Hits in Norway) [ edit ] Artist The first game in the series, SingStar, was released in Europe and Oceania in 2004. As of 2008 [update], over twenty games in the SingStar series have been released in English-speaking territories, [1] including a small number in North America. The SingStar games require SingStar-branded microphones–one red and one blue–which connect to the PlayStation console via a single USB converter. The USB converter was required so that both microphones would use a single USB port; the PlayStation 2 and later versions of the PlayStation 3 only have two USB ports, and the second port needed to remain free for camera functionality. [17] The PlayStation 2 Headset was originally considered as an alternative to microphones, however the headset was not technically sufficient, and London Studio felt that handheld microphones were important to the authentic experience. Gibson, Ellie (November 22, 2007). "SingStar PS3". Eurogamer. Archived from the original on October 15, 2017 . Retrieved December 18, 2017. Mason, Kevin (April 16, 2007). "My SingStar Online". IGN. Archived from the original on November 27, 2007 . Retrieved December 18, 2017. SingStar sells itself on its intelligent approach to singing - it can register the pitch, tone and rhythm of the singer/player so you can see visually whether you are in time or the right key. You are also judged, rather like in Dancing Stage, at the end of each line - so if you sing well, you get a good, and at the end of the game you get more points. If you concentrate and "try" you can get some good scores, but generally the bad singing is the most appreciated.
