Description

Rust is one of the most difficult types of stain to remove – but did you know there are two different types? The first is caused by external sources, whilst the second is caused by a chemical reaction within a stone – and each needs to be treated with a different type of stain remover. Once the Salt Neutraliser is fully dry you can redecorate your wall using paint or wallpaper. It is also useful to note that if you are going to paint the area then you may want to use a stain and damp primer before adding your top coat. The stain and damp primer will ensure that no tide marks or marks or any kind will reappear on the surface at any point in the future

This mortar stain remover is acid-based, offering a powerful cleaning solution that is useful in many scenarios. However this is a different problem to efflorescence (also known as "salting"). You can read more about spalling in our project on freeze/thaw damage.

Step 2. Dampen

In the photie above, old, reclaimed yorkstone flags from the streets of East Lancashire have been brought up like new by blasting with grit to remove all dirt and surface staining. One of the modern, portable surface blasters used to clean badly stained pavements To ensure fair pricing, we split colours into ‘Price Bands’ to group together similar priced colours. If you wish to search for the cheapest tinted colours, always select Price Band 1. Wall Mesh Membrane can be used to form a barrier between the salts in the wall and the new wall covering How to Treat Salting on Plaster There may be some occasions when it is more efficient or cost effective to have the materials shipped direct from our suppliers to the customer. The sooner an oil stain is treated, the more likely it is to be removed. Use a cloth to soak-up any oil droplets on the surface, but don't smear or rub the oil into the surface. Fresh oil stains can be soaked up by proprietary absorbent materials or even some of the clay-based cat litters, cornflour or talcum powder. Any residue remaining after treating with an absorbent agent can sometimes be removed or ameliorated by scrubbing with a detergent and brush before washing down with water. It may take several attempts for this to work. Clean oil will generally soak into the paving and there will be little evidence of its presence after a few weeks. Dirty oil can be very difficult, if not impossible to completely remove.

SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE. Do not dilute. Completely cover the rust stain with the product. Leave to act for 15 minutes. The product colour will change to a deep purple as it reacts with the rust. Once the indicated time has elapsed, remove the residue and rinse the surface thoroughly with plenty of water and leave to dry. Repeat application until the stain is completely removed. The initial staining that occurs with lime leaching can be removed using water and a brush. However, once the calcium hydroxide has reacted with the air and formed calcium carbonate, this can only be removed by an acid solution. LTP Rust Stain Removeris a non-caustic solution that removes marks caused by external sources. It is safe to use on all polished and unpolished natural and artificial stone tiles, including marble, granite, travertine, split face stone cladding, sandstone, concrete, terracotta, ceramic and porcelain. After applying, the reaction between the rust stain and thetreatment causes it to turn purple, so you can clearly see the product working. More stubborn stains may need more than one treatment. If this is the case, we recommend leaving 15 minutes after the first dosing, then removing the rust residue with a sponge or water and repeating until all of the ‘purpling’ has stopped.Once there is no colour reaction, all of the iron has been removed. Here’s a link to more information, including a Video Aid which shows the treatment being applied, step by step. You can also see a short demo on our YouTube Channel, LTP TV, showing treatment on a porcelain paver.

Signature required on delivery.

Ensure that the surface to be treated is completely free from dust and dirt before application. If necessary, wash with LTP Power Stripperdiluted 1:10 with water. Remove excess dirt, mortar, etc. with a stiff yard brush or hand brush, the use of a churn brush is advised as extra pressure can be used on this type of brush. This should only be undertaken on minor stains or if the efforts of the mechanical cleaning described above have left an undesirable or unsightly stain.

After 3 – 6 hours, rinse with plenty of clean water. If traces remain after a couple of days, repeat the process. Re-plaster to the correct Specification for a damp wall If you are re-plastering it is important you do NOT use modern, lightweight Gypsum-based plasters as you will find the salts will cause damage again This kind of sulphate crystal build-up can occur in any building, of any age, where water is passing into the structure. If you have a serious build up of deposits on a wall, a good scrub with a stiff, dry brush will remove the worst, and then follow this treatment a soft dry brush to make sure you dust off all the salts from the wall entirely.Repeat application for extremely stubborn stains. finally flood treated areas with cold water after use.
