The Elgato Wave 1 may not be as versatile compared to the other mics, but it does give you access to Elgato’s Wave Link app that can be pretty useful depending on your setup or needs. If you want to organize different audio sources using one app or software, the Wave Link can be a powerful tool. Basically, the Wave: 1 proved exceptionally well during the microphone test. Though even if some keystrokes were heard, it was quieter than what we were expecting.

Wave:1 is a premium microphone and digital mixing solution. This USB 2.0 device has a USB-C connector on the microphone and connects to the computer via USB-A. The ADC is equipped with a technology Elgato calls "Clipguard," which aims to remove any traces of clipping (distortion caused by shouting). According to the manufacturer, a second audio channel runs inside the microphone at a reduced volume. If peaking occurs—you get overly excited and start shouting, for example—the microphone instantly switches to that second channel, where the recorded sound is quieter, and delivers that to your audience. The Wave: 1 comes with a 70 – 20,000 Hz frequency response. It also has -25dBFS for minimum gain, and 15dBFS for maximum gain when it comes to sensitivity. There are multiple options for mounting Wave:1 on a boom arm or other stand for increased flexibility and maneuverability. You can mount with a 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch, or 5/8 inch screw.

We consider this as a highly brief but excellent introduction to the mic. However, it’s good to note that Elgato designed this product specifically for streamers and content creators. With that, you can imagine all the whistles and bells that this company has tossed into their latest product line. The Elgato Wave 1 is a broadcast-quality USB microphone for PC. It’s compatible with Windows 10 (64-bit) and macOS 10.15 or newer. Inside the Wave 1 is a “premium” condenser capsule in a cardioid polar pattern that is fine-tuned for speech. At this point all sound is going through Wave Link System, but you want to have your music come in via the Music input so it can be controlled separately. In this example we'll use Spotify. I don’t have an audio recording or clip to share with you, unfortunately. But the Wave microphones are made for streamers and podcasters. It has an emphasis on vocals, or it’s strong points is capturing one’s voice. I also used the Wave 1 to capture ambient sounds while doing some unboxings. And I realized that it may be a good microphone for ASMR videos as well. Just may be.
