I definitely think the sequel will work a lot better because now the stage is set, and the last few scenes were really ramping up to some good action. I don’t want to reveal too much of the plot so I’ll leave it there but it did make me change my mind-set. The god system hasn't been heavily developed in this first book, but it's interesting and unique so far- I always love mythology in fantasy. Their journeys to accepting their powers and recognising what that may mean was reminiscent of many us young people trying to understand our strengths.

Although both twins had my heart, I really liked Naala despite her being very impulsive in comparison to her twin Sinai.

The plot in itself was okay, the story moved slow but at the same time things happened way too fast? Our protagonists, twin sisters separated very early in their lives - Naala and Sinai - are two very powerful and loveable heroines. Amayo’s “Daughters of Nri” is a fantasy novel rooted in African legends and mythology, which makes for a breath of fresh air and I enjoyed exploring a completely new world with a different setting. Sure, there are some points that could use a little polish but the story is absolutely worth reading and I am counting down the months until the sequel is published. As it is, the chapters were so short it sometimes felt like not much got done within them, and the plot would stop and start jarringly.
