There's no sense trying to do a proper review as thorough and insightful as Sam Quixote's, so read that, I'd say. I learned a lot, as usual, from him. In October 2010, Vertigo published the first issue of a Hellblazer mini series, Hellblazer: City of Demons. To solve the mystery, the four detectives have to try to work together to uncover a conspiracy spanning over 150 years. So, if you're already hooked, here is everything you need to know about Netflix's Bodies. What is the release date for Netflix's Bodies? Hellblazer: City of Demons (with Sean Murphy, five-issue limited series, Vertigo, December 2010 – February 2011, tpb, May 2011, ISBN 1-4012-3153-5) Based on the graphic novel by Si Spencer, the new series (which is out now!) follows four different police detectives from different time periods who discover the exact same body in Whitechapel, East London.Bodies on Netflix is based on the mind-bending graphic novel by Si Spencer, with the same name. The comic was released in 2015, and Si Spencer teamed up with four different illustrators, each of which gave each time frame its unique feel. As well as his work as an author, Si was also a scriptwriter, and during his career worked on shows such as Grange Hill, EastEnders and The Bill. As for Spencer, he was a long-time comic book writer and editor who has worked in both the British and American comics industry and often collaborated with fellow British comic book writer Dean Ormston. Spencer has worked on projects like The Vinyl Underground, Crisis, and more. He also contributed to Judge Dredd Magazine, writing for the executioner for several years and creating multiple spinoff characters. The Vinyl Underground #1–12 (with Simon Gane and Cameron Stewart, ongoing series, Vertigo, December 2007 – November 2008) collected as:

This may remind you of some beloved and equally complex streaming television mini-series - - the weird, vague ones that hold your attention in spite of it all. I loved the premise of BODIES. There’s a weird mystery here, which connects each era - - the mutilated dead body of a one-eyed man. Such a novel idea, to tell four separate tales with this linking device. Also, four artists who are completely different from each other, altering their styles to suit the tenor of the scene and time their segment takes place in. Spencer writes the segments differently, further distinguishing each by having the main characters provide some of the narration in the text boxes and revealing their idiosyncrasies (all fascinating). Judge Death: "Masque of the Judge, Death" (with John McCrea, in Judge Dredd Mega-Special No. 4, 1991) LONDON, 2050. As the mind-scrambling pulsewave plagues the last survivors of a terrifying techno-apocalypse, the amnesiac young woman known only as Maplewood can barely understand the body she’s discovered. But this ritual killing is identical to those from decades past-and the link between them all is stronger, and stranger, than anyone could dream…

It’s being filmed throughout the United Kingdom in several big cities including Hull, Leeds, Grimsby, Bradford and Rotherham. The frequent jumps between the different story lines made it difficult to really get into the story, and the story to tie them all together wasn't that strong. I didn't really care for the art (although I liked some better than others).

Spencer has also written for television. After winning a 'New Voices' competition with the play Tracey and Lewis, he secured a position at the BBC as script editor on prime-time cop show City Central. He later worked as a staff writer for the BBC's EastEnders and ITV's The Bill in addition to being storyliner and series editor and contributing scripts to Grange Hill. He was credited as script editor on the 2009 Aardman pilot for CBBC show Men in Coats. Because there are a lot of ideas here, HH, Mithras, dybbuks, and so on, that you have to know a bit about to make sense of the ending.

Si Spencer - Wikipedia

The first inspector, the dedicated Edmond Hillinghead, investigates the murder of an unidentified male in the 1890s. His initial discovery of the crime is then followed by Inspector Charles Whiteman’s investigation in 1940 while the Blitz ravages London. If you're looking for a gritty, British crime drama to binge-watch on Netflix, then you need to put Bodies on your list. A body is found in four distinct points in our timeline. What's strange about them is that they all present the same wounds and are in the same position. Each investigator handles the case with the available technology and methods of the day. The story inches ever closer to what seems to be a conspiracy. I admit to not knowing the first thing about this book before I requested it from Netgalley. But I was intrigued by the cover, with its blood-spattered pinup, and the idea of a murder mystery spanning over a century was right up my alley. And it all starts very strongly. The individual detectives are all quite distinctive from each other. And though I didn't particularly like two of the four (the 40s detective on the make and the futuristic amnesiac) I quite liked reading the other two's stories. The repressed Victorian detective was a decent piece of period work, and the present day Muslim detective was by far my favorite character. In 2022, Netflix announced that a series based on Spencer's Vertigo series Bodies had been greenlit, with Moonage Pictures producing. [5] The series Bodies consisted of eight episodes and premiered on Netflix on 19 October 2023. [6] Bibliography [ edit ]
