About this deal

As with all well-written first-person narratives, we only know what Ade knows and as the world around him changes we feel as confused and frustrated as to the actions and character of the people he lives with. There's a little story that led me to reading this book which I thought I'd share because I think it just highlights why as teachers we can have a big impact on young minds. Luckily a couple of older people in the flats downstairs are left behind as well and so the grim situation lightens, and becomes a team survival challenge.

It was a good book but some things seemed way too convenient that reminded you that you are reading a book.I felt like the lead up and introduction to these plants and what was going on felt too long, and when the 'real stuff' starts to happen it felt over far too fast. Under federal law, if you knowingly misrepresent that online material is infringing, you may be subject to criminal prosecution for perjury and civil penalties, including monetary damages, court costs, and attorneys’ fees.

I appreciated how it pulled in a child’s perspective on survival and supporting their parent who needed to be cared for. Trapped in his tower block, how can Ade survive as the Bluchers weave their deadly circle around his home? Many Hamilton units come with interactive Grammar Presentations integrated into the overall teaching and textual context.

There are more screens as Powerpoint is not as interactive as SMART and so this gets around the problem for Powerpoint users. As well as being an acclaimed theatre actress, Cusack has also starred in numerous dramas including Heartbeat in the early '90s, The Virtues, Brassic and Death in Paradise. They include purposeful writing suggestions, links to the wider curriculum so that texts can be used across other subjects, key questions as well as spelling or phonics investigations. When there is a sort of apocalypse and plants start growing which kill people and destroy buildings, Ade is trapped in the tower and it’s only because of the other survivors (Obi and Dory) who are kind to him that he survives. As the danger to Ade grows, and the sinister nature of the bluchers becomes more scary,we see what he's really made of. Due to the sometimes distressing themes you would have to be aware of the children’s backgrounds and experiences to ensure this book was okay for the class. There is one thing that I still want to know about though, which is what happened to Cicely, Obi's wife. Ade’s mother is afraid to go out which necessitates his seeking help from the few people left in his rapidly collapsing community.
